Why 2023 is The Year to Love Your Wardrobe And Style

Why 2023 Is Your Year to Love Your Wardrobe And Style | The UNDONE

The turn of a new year has commenced and now is the time to regroup, reflect, and set goals for the year ahead. Everyone loves the classic ‘New Year, New Me’ style resolution, however, it does not necessarily mean you have to reinvent your entire self (you go for it, if you want to!) or your wardrobe. Rather than starting from scratch, take some time to sit down, put pen to paper, think about who you are, who you want to be and how you want to present yourself this year. Does your wardrobe and style reflect these attributes, or is it time to make some changes? Don’t know where to start, we’ve got you covered.

#1 - Start journaling to reflect on your lifestyle

The beginning of the year is the ideal time to commence your new years style resolution and we can’t go past the good old ‘pen to paper’ approach to get yourself started. Think of where the next year will lead for you - will you work from home or be back in an office environment? Will you be on the move or taking it slow and steady? Do you have little ones that need to be chased after? Are you moving into a new job environment or relocating? Do you have a personal uniform or specific style? All of these questions can direct you to a clearer path of understanding how your wardrobe should work for your life. Opt for a clean notebook to start writing about who you want to be for the year ahead. Focus on how you want to present yourself and does your current wardrobe reflect this. Once your thoughts are clearly laid out, use a daily planner or weekly diary to keep yourself accountable to your intentions and stay on track.

#2 - Create a style moodboard

With your style intentions and lifestyles needs set, create a visual moodboard/collage to represent your style and how it will look. We can't go past Pinterest as the most useful tool to gain inspiration for style advice and outfit ideas. Start to collate imagery of outfits you like, outfits that suit your lifestyle and any other inspirational imagery that relates to your style goals for the next year. This collaging approach is something you can always return to throughout the year and update along the way. Just remember to refer back to your journaling when building your moodboard and stay true to your intentions and style journey.

#3 - Initiate a wardrobe declutter

Once you have a deeper understanding of what your style looks like, it's time to reevaluate your current wardrobe to make the most of the pieces that make you feel your very best and add value to your lifestyle. We always go for a less is more approach to our wardrobe, investing in classic wardrobe essentials you’ll be wearing on repeat. Reduce your clutter and bring out any pieces that you didn’t wear at all last year or no longer serve positive connotations for you. Why is it that? Do they no longer suit your current lifestyle, do they need to be altered, dry cleaned or it is time to let go of these pieces and pass them to a new home or donate? Removing any unworn pieces will allow you to focus on what you wear all the time or identify any gaps in your wardrobe that need to be filled.

#4  - Plan for the year ahead

With your wardrobe laid bare, we can begin to plan our style to create your personal capsule wardrobe. Set a budget for yourself to stay on track of your spending habits and avoid impulse shopping throughout the year. Think about the different seasons and if you are missing any wardrobe essentials. By narrowing down your style, it allows you to take time to find the perfect piece to fill the gap, investing in classic pieces you’ll wear for years to come.
